It does not constitute definitive residence nor does it replace the residence resolution.

Its objective is to allow the applicant to remain legally in Paraguay while Migrations analyzes and resolves their file.

What is Temporary Residence?

Temporary Residence is an immigration authorization granted by the National Directorate of Migration to foreigners who wish to legally establish themselves in Paraguay to carry out legal activities within the country.

Currently, Temporary Residence is regulated by Law No. 6984/2022 on Migration.

How to Obtain Temporary Residence?

Step 1: Gather Documentation

In most cases it is required:

• Valid passport.
• Apostille birth certificate.
• Apostilled criminal record certificate.
• Marriage or divorce certificate (if applicable).
• Documentation that demonstrates legal residence in a third country when applicable.

Step 2: Translate the Documents

Documents issued in languages ​​other than Spanish generally must be translated in accordance with Paraguayan legal requirements.

Documents issued in Portuguese by Brazil are usually exempt from translation.

Step 3: Enter Paraguay

Once in Paraguay, the applicant must keep:

• The entry seal.

Step 8: Obtain the Paraguayan ID

Once the residence is approved, the foreigner can request the Paraguayan Identity Card from the Identification Department of the National Police.

What is the Next Step After Temporary Residence?

Temporary Residence constitutes the previous step to obtain Permanent Residence.

Generally, the application for Permanent Residence can be submitted before the expiration of Temporary Residence, as long as the requirements established by current immigration legislation are met.
