The INTERPOL Background Certificate is a document issued by the INTERPOL Department of the National Police of Paraguay that verifies whether a foreign person has international alerts, arrest warrants or records registered through the INTERPOL international network.
For most foreigners applying for Temporary or Permanent Residence in Paraguay, this certificate is a mandatory requirement from 14 years of age.
What is it for?
The main objective is for the Paraguayan authorities to verify that the applicant does not have international alerts or impediments that could affect their immigration admissibility.
Migrations uses this certificate as part of the security and background evaluation of the applicant.
Who needs to get it?
Generally:
- Temporary Residence Applicants.
- Permanent Residence Applicants.
- Foreigners over 14 years of age who carry out certain immigration procedures.
How is it obtained?
Step 1: Travel to Paraguay
The procedure is carried out in person in Paraguay once the applicant has entered the country.
Step 2: Prepare the documentation
Typically required:
- Application form.
- Copy authenticated by a notary of your identity document or passport.
- Two passport-type photographs (3x4) with a white background.
Step 3: Report to INTERPOL
The applicant must attend in person to:
- Submit the documentation.
- Take fingerprints.
- Complete the corresponding verifications.
Step 4: Receiving the certificate
Normally the certificate is usually issued within approximately 24 to 48 business hours.
Where is it done?
Currently the procedure is carried out before the INTERPOL Department of the National Police in Asunción.
Does the INTERPOL Certificate replace my country's criminal record?
No.
They are different documents.
For Paraguayan residency, the following are normally required:
- Criminal record certificate from your country of origin (apostilled).
- INTERPOL Background Certificate in Paraguay.
- Background Certificate for Foreigners issued by the National Police of Paraguay.
